Breaking my Back(log): PvP

Once upon a time, I refused to play PvP games. I was just terrible at them, and therefore chose to avoid them. Then in 2010 I started playing League of Legends with my friend John. LoL was fun, but I was still terrible, so I walked away from the PvP realm once again. Over the last year or so however, the genre has drawn me back in.

I’ve been dabbling with quite a few, and want to share my thoughts on each, and what my mindset is when I play one or the other.

Breaking my Back(log): Destiny 2

When I built my new computer a couple months back, I purchased a Nvidia 1080. I wanted to have something that would allow me to play newer games on as high settings as possible while lasting me a couple years until my next build. Luckily for me, at the time, Nvidia was running a promotion: buy a 1060, 1070, or 1080 and get Destiny 2 for free. I’m excited to say, it took me much less time to pick up and play Destiny 2, than most newer games I purchase.

The Magic of the PvP Community

During these past few months, I’ve been enamored with PvPing in Hydaelyn, the world of Final Fantasy XIV. In the past, I always looked for a game centered specifically around PvP which lead me to avenues such as Aion, and Blade & Soul, however, when I picked up FFXIV I had planned to give up the PvP life. I just wanted a nice place to relax and enjoy the world, rather than play competitively. That worked for me for about three years or so.

The End of Season 5 - FFXIV Feast

With the end of Season 5 of The Feast, Final Fantasy XIV’s ranked PvP, rapidly approaching, I want to address some issues that are quite clear with how the game handles ranked PvP. I also want to state my hopes for what the developers will do to address these problems in future seasons.

Patch 4.06a and the Effect It Has On The Feast

In my last article, I shared my thoughts on some basic PvP strategies and how to survive the 4v4 Ranked Feast mode. However, thanks to the lovely patch that is 4.06a, there have been a few changes to PvP and so I feel the need to release this article as a follow-up since this is the first time they have ever updated and rebalanced PvP mid-season.

General Strategy Changes

A Survival Guide to Final Fantasy XIV's 4v4 The Feast.

With the release of Stormblood, the latest expansion into the Final Fantasy XIV universe, there were many changes to PvP. We were introduced to PvP-specific skills, and lost the ability to use our normal PvE ones. We are also now able to pick from a pool of two “additional actions” and bring them into each match - such as Purify which removes detrimental effects from whoever it is cast on; and Bolt, the PvP version of Sprint. Don’t forget to choose three traits as well.
