Stony Brook wins big in the first EGF College Rival Series Championship

This fall, 8 universities faced off in intense competition across Hearthstone, Overwatch, and League of Legends, battling for glory and the first to become the EGF College Rival Champion. After 4 qualifiers, 4 teams met in the championship tournament this past weekend to find out who would reign supreme. You can check out the VODs from the entire tournament on our YouTube channel.

Preview: EGF Lone Star Series celebrates Texas Collegiate Esports

The EGF Lone Star Series brings together some of the top collegiate esports teams in Texas including:

UT Austin, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Texas State, University of North Texas, UT Permian Basin, and UT San Antonio.

 

This tournament runs Friday(11/18) between 5:00PM-10:15PM CST and Saturday (11/19) between 10:30 AM-9:45 PM CST.

In a great series of matches across Overwatch and League of Legends, UMass would ultimately find victory over Columbia in Overwatch and League of Legends while Columbia would advance in Hearthstone. Back when Overwatch’s season 1 competitive mode was just being released, I wrote an article about a few tips to help you ladder up. Well, a lot has changed since then. The game itself has changed with some balances and rules changes, but so has my opinion and philosophy of the game.

Overwatch reimagined as Hots #5 - Junkrat

It all started back in Blizzcon 2015 when Tracer was announced to be in Heroes of the Storm (HOTS). There was much speculation for many moths as to how they were going to approach Tracer and the other Overwatch heroes, but now that Tracer has been released we’ve found out just how well Blizzard mirrored the Overwatch hero’s gameplay in HOTS. As a player of both games, I thought it a fun experiment to try to imagine all of the Overwatch heroes as HOTS champions. This will also serve as a lasting legacy of how wrong I was when the heroes actually end up coming out!

On the second of August, we were graced by the Overwatch Gods (aka Jeff Kaplan). In their grace, we received Overwatch’s first big seasonal event: The Summer Games. This event will last for three weeks and is largely inspired by the actual 2016 Rio Summer games with different sports- and country-themed in game items you can unlock as well as an AWESOME new game mode.
